Stuff I Didn’t Get To This Week (Vol. I)
December 7, 2007
Welcome to BloggingNotes. You may want to subscribe to my full text RSS feed. This message will only appear once. Thanks for visiting!
This is going to be a weekly round-up of stuff that I found during the week that I thought BloggingNotes readers might find useful or interesting that I either couldn’t work into a post, or I just didn’t get time for it. It’ll get posted usually around noon, Pacific Time, each Friday, in addition to the daily post early in the morning.
Why Traffic, Your Subscriber Count, and Money Doesn’t Matter: a post over at Skelliewag.org that claims that “if visitors see what makes your blog look popular and successful, then it becomes popular and successful.” - it really comes down to perception, and without people perceiving your blog as being the authority in your niche, it’s going to be MUCH harder for it to become that “go to” site.
The Value of a Ping: from RT Cunningham of Untwisted Vortex. At first I thought I was looking at a golf post, and then I wondered if it was the ‘ping’ command he was talking about, but it turns out to be about ping backs from other blogs, including a couple he’d never even heard of linking back to his site, and the resulting traffic, and, more importantly, the new information from the other sites, that was generated.
Don’t Forget to Backup Your WordPress Blog!: this comes from Search for Blogging. If you’re making your living as a blogger, or even if you’re just starting out, it’s a scary thought that you might try to log on to your blog only to find out that something’s gone horribly wrong. If you’re a pro blogger, this could mean a great deal of lost income. If you’ve been blogging for a short time, though, this might be what pushes you away from blogging for good. And that would be a bigger tragedy. So, please, back up your blog. I’ve even posted about a super simple script that’ll do it if you’re using a self-hosted WordPress configuration.

I thoroughly enjoyed Skellie’s article you listed above. In fact, I enjoy all the articles on her sight…I dig her writing style.

Yeah, I’m finding more and more that the stuff she writes both on her site, and on Problogger is just awesome material. I bookmark a *lot* of her stuff.
