Use co.mments To Track Your…uh…Comments

Without a doubt, one of the very best plug-ins for WordPress is Mark Jaquith’s Subscribe to Comments, which will email you whenever a blog post that you comment on receives another comment. It’s a great plug-in which eliminates the need to try and keep track of where you’ve posted comments. Especially if you happen to play blog hopscotch (going on commenting binges), like Tyler does.

But, being the RSS fan that I am, discovered another method of managing your comments, and it’s all available in your feed reader.

Co.mments.com is a site that will track the comments feed of blogs that you request it to, and bundle them in a feed that you can subscribe to in your feed reader. When a posting receives a new comment, it’ll appear in your feed reader.Once you’re signed up for the service, you can drag a bookmarklet to your Firefox or IE bookmarks, and after you’ve finished commenting on a post, one click adds the information to your co.mments feed. It’s about as simple as it can get, and I’ve found that I much prefer this method for tracking my comments more than subscribing to the comments and getting notification by email.

If you’re looking to get even more into your feed reader, you’d be hard pressed not to give this a try.

This is similar to something that I do. I offer RSS feeds for individual posts’ comments so you can follow along.

I have my own master comment RSS Feed that shows me when ever someone comments on any post on my site :) Very useful since I don’t like spamming myself with email ;)

It is indeed useful, and like I mentioned, I’d prefer to get the info via RSS instead of email.

Yet more customized stuff just for your site, eh?

The joys of having a custom blog! Though.. i am envy of some features Wordpress has that I don’t ;)

Thanks Rod for this resource. I am not a fan of email at all (partly due to the predominance of spam that appears in it) so getting follow up notifications by email just makes things worse.

This is a much better idea!

Nancy - you’re very welcome. I try to get as much as I can in a feed reader, and this just makes tracking much easier.

Couldn’t agree more about email. If I could find a service that let me subscribe to a feed that was a direct communication between myself and someone else, that would effectively be a replacement of email for me.

Thanks for your comment, also. I very much appreciate it.
