Want A Jump In Traffic? Post On Saturday and Sunday
November 26, 2007
Welcome to BloggingNotes. You may want to subscribe to my full text RSS feed. This message will only appear once. Thanks for visiting!
When I started this site, I was determined that I was going to do things correctly, and try to post on a daily basis in order to keep traffic levels up. In the past, that’s meant Monday to Friday, at least for me.But with BNN, I decided to see if posting on the weekends would mean a noticeable increase in traffic. I mean, a lot of people say that Monday is the busiest day for their blog traffic, simply because readers take the weekend off. Consequently, a lot of bloggers do as well.
So I’ve been time stamping a couple of posts that I write during the week to go live on Saturday and Sunday. I still have to submit them BloggingZoom, but that just takes a couple of minutes out of my day and then in the evening, I go back in and check comments.
When I logged into Google Analytics this morning, I was more than a little surprised to find that last Saturday and Sunday were the two highest volume days I’ve had since starting this site. And they weren’t earth-shattering posts. More survey and general commentary posts.
But I’m almost starting to think that the weekend isn’t for “throw-away” posts, like a lot of people seem to think. This is something I’m going to have to explore a little more.
So if you’re looking to keep your traffic levels up, write a couple of posts on Tuesday or Wednesday to drop on the weekend and see what happens. Make sure you submit them to BZ, as it appears a lot of readers still check the site on the weekend looking for new content.
It might be just the thing your blog needs.

I’ve found that Fri, Sat & Sun to be getting the most traffic. It might be that it’s a new blog… dunno. Also this weekend was the lowest traffic since starting!

Thanks for the comment, Colin. I’m going to keep an eye on my traffic results for the next few weeks and see if the weekends do turn out to be winners for me.

I find that posting on Thursday gets decent traffic Thurs-Sat. Saturday being one of the better days.
On the weekends I tweak my layouts and do research. Weekends are no good for online socializing that’s for sure.

Jordan - yeah, there’s not really a lot of socializing going on on the weekend. Not online, at least. Everyone’s off experiencing the real world.
I’m wondering if there’s *ever* a day that’s best for “throw-away” posts.
Thanks for the feedback.

Rod, you are right I have read about the weekend traffic in other blogs, so I did the same thing as you last Sunday and I found that I got a very big jump in my traffic exactly as you. I guess I’ll keep my best posts for the weekends

I think that entertainment type items get read while surfers are at work, and self or blog improvement type posts are read more on the weekend. This is just my gut reaction. A lot of people have a few minutes to escape at lunch during the week and save the thinking for their spare time. Of course, I could just be talking out of my butt on this one:)

Traffic rarely drops for me on Sat and Sun, so I write 7 days a week. I only miss days due to my confounded ISP.

@Lara: I don’t know why more people don’t post on weekends. It quite obviously works for some blogs. Actually maybe others *shouldn’t* post on weekends. More traffic for those who do
Thanks very much for your comment.

@Tim: It would be interesting to see what the breakdown is in the scenario you mentioned. Never thought of it that way.
Thanks very much for the comment.

@RT: Thankfully I don’t have that issue with my ISP.

I assume you mean US time Sat/Sun - over here in Australia/NZ we are often 1 day ahead. I do notice a pattern but I am probably not posting regularly enough to analyze it in detail. One thing I do say is that 5-7 days a week posting is often hard to keep up with as a reader.

Lissie, yes, I do mean North American time. I should actually look at setting some of my posts to go live at different times of the day just due to the time differences around the world. Admittedly it’s tougher when a blog you read posts at odd times of the reader’s day.
Thanks for your comment. Very much appreciated.

I try to come up with a new article every other day, and the traffic is quite the same every day of the week.I haven´t noticed that the traffic should be a lot bigger in the weekends.
