What Will Be *The* Blog of 2008?
December 28, 2007
Welcome to BloggingNotes. You may want to subscribe to my full text RSS feed. This message will only appear once. Thanks for visiting!
While I realize that a question like this will tend to be a little vague, I’d be interested in hearing what BloggingNotes readers might consider the established blog that’s going to break out in the next 12 months and become a niche leader, or is there something that’s only been around for a month or two that everyone’s going to start following?
I’m not just talking about the blogs about blogging, or the make money online crowd, either. Sports blogs, health related blogs, personal blogs, the “Lifehacker-style” blogs…what’s going to be “the one”?
One site that I’d like to see develop into a huge thing is Trevor Carpenter’s Photowalking.org. Photowalking, for those who may not know the term started up in mid-2007 and generally just involves a g group of photographers descending on an area and shooting whatever they like. While I’m sure the concept isn’t new, the term is, and Trevor saw an opportunity when it presented itself. He now post announcements of upcoming photowalks wherever they’re being held, and also spotlights the results of some of the events.Another that may catch on in the coming year is the Metroblogging network, a number of “city blogs” that cover a wide range of cities around the world. If you want to really know what’s going on as it happens, like in Pakistan, for example, there are three Metroblogging cities in Pakistan at the moment - Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore. Disclaimer: I’m a charter member of the Vancouver team, but haven’t posted there in about six months, unfortunately.
Finally, it’s not really a blog per se, but I have a feeling that BloggingZoom is going to grow in ways that Court and Vic didn’t even imagine when they started the site back in November. Let’s hope so, because it’s been one of the best sources of traffic I’ve seen in a long time.

I think that city blogging will gain more traction in the next year. Most are “young and hip” right now but I think you’ll see blogs describing the best places to get your kid’s hair cut, the best deals on hamburger or gas and so forth appear with increasing frequency.

Agreed, Frank. Although once they become a source such as that, it almost becomes more like a paid service, as opposed to a group sharing their opinions and posting on interesting things happening around the city.

I suspect Vic and his blog “Blogger Unleashed” has the potential to become huge if the first few weeks are any indication.
Rod, I got your email and unfortunately my email is not allowing me to send at the moment but I wanted to say your new blog is set up just right and you should slip a few links to it from your other sites if they are in any way related - also add a bit more content to your posts to increase the likelihood of being indexed for incidental terms as well. (This will also get better targeted adsense ads - you don’t want those damn blog ads showing) You’ve got the right idea with the blog as it will allow you to branch out with time.
Anyhow good idea for a post and I wanted to touch base re your email.
Keep at it,
Griz

I think Vic’s Blogger Unleashed and Vic and Court’s Blogging Zoom are go to blog bigtime. They are the “real deal”, and have already created quite a following. And of course my blog in the golf niche

I’m in agreement with Grizzly about Vic’s Blogger Unleashed site. There aren’t too many sites like his, and even fewer that involve such explicit language. Depending on how well word of mouth travels, he’ll hit it really big by spring.

@Griz: Thanks very much. Yeah, I’ll add a little more content to the the posts, as about a week ago I was getting better adsense ads showing up. The other sites aren’t really related so I’ll have to see about putting links in. I’ll think about it. Thanks for the tips and feedback, though.

@Mike: Thanks very much for your comment. I just started really following Vic’s new site recently, and I can’t say I disagree with you. It could go huge.

@Jason: It is a little refreshing to see Vic’s site standing out in just the way that it does. No cookie-cutter site at all.
