WordPress Plug-ins You (Probably) Haven’t Heard Of

Welcome to BloggingNotes. You may want to subscribe to my full text RSS feed. This message will only appear once. Thanks for visiting!

If you’ve used WordPress for any length of time, you know that there’s no shortage of plug-ins for the service. Pretty much anything that you can think of to do with WordPress, someone else has already thought of it and written a plug-in for it.

Talking about the standard plug-ins (Akismet, Adsense Deluxe, Do Follow, etc.) is what everyone else does. I’m going to go bring your attention to some plug-ins that you (probably) haven’t heard of. Some will have an impact on the look of your blog, and some will change the appearance of the administrative portion of your site. But give them a try and see if they make things a little easier for you.

MyDashboard - this is a “replacement Ajax based dashboard” that makes it so much easier to lay things out the way you want them. I only wish that it extended across more than just the initial dashboard to the whole admin interface.

Site Unavailable: Ever want to take your site offline for a minute or two while you make a change, or try a new plug-in? This will let visitors know that the site is temporarily down. Deactivate it, and your main page comes up again. Very simple. Very effective.

Tiger Style Administration: If you want a cleaner admin interface for WordPress, this is it. Unlike the MyDashboard plug-in, though, this one skins the *whole* interface. Very cool. If I lived in the interface, rather than posting from Windows Live Writer, this is what I’d have running.
BloggingZoom Vote Button: If you’ve spent any time at all around here, you know that I love BZ. This plug-in allows you to add the code to drop the vote button on each of your posts.

Now these are hardly the be-all, end-all of WordPress plug-ins, but they are ones that have made the experience a little easier for me. You’ve got nothing to lose by giving them a try. Or if you’ve got other plug-ins that aren’t common usage, I’d love to hear about them.

There are several more plugins which are very important than the four you mentioned. I see that you are running CommentLuv plugin but its not featured on your post. I think CommentLuv plugin is nicer than MyDashboard.

Without a doubt, there are other plug-ins that I didn’t cover, but I tried t cover ones that may not be as commonly used as others such as CommentLuv.

Thanks very much for the comment.
